Volunteer Opportunities

The Franklin County Warming Shelter is operated by community volunteers like YOU. Would you consider being a volunteer at least one night this winter? There are several ways to volunteer and support the FC Warming Shelter this winter season:

Ways to Volunteer at the Shelter

If you are interested in signing up to volunteer for any night in January or February 2023, please use the Sign-up to Volunteer button below. Overnight volunteers are ALWAYS needed! Remember there is one paid staff person each night, so volunteering overnight is easy! Thanks for signing up to volunteer… (click on button)

If you are interested in being a volunteer who is available or “on call” for possible openings we may have, please let us know your interests and availability using the Volunteer Availability button below…

Food Service –

Volunteers prepare and serve dinner to guests who are staying the night. Dinner is served from 7:00 – 8:00 pm each evening.

Intake –

A volunteer may assist the staff in registering everyone who is in need of shelter for the night. Guests must sign in and complete intake documents (first time visiting only). Intake is from 7:00-8:00 pm.

Overnight stay –

Volunteers assist our staff to ensure that guests have the items they need for the night and lock the facility for the evening. Volunteers sleep in designated areas so they are prepared if needed in the night. Overnight volunteers stay from 8:00 pm-8:00 am.

Ways to Volunteer at home

Laundry Services –

Laundering towels and linens used by guests who are staying at the shelter will provide fresh clean towels and linens for new guests when they arrive. (Note, linens for regular guests are washed weekly. Towels are washed daily.)
